Dreamsicle Daiquiri

IMG_8359.jpg

One of the best summer treats is an orange creamsicle pop with that sweet orange sorbet with that sweet vanilla cream center. During summer, I wanted to recreate that flavor in a rum-based cocktail. Knowing that the drink could be overly sweet, I decided to base the cocktail off of a daiquiri, a classic cocktail consisting of rum, lime juice, and sugar. White rum, distilled from sugar cane, isn't an overpowering spirit but works nicely with strong fruit characteristics. To create that vanilla flavor, I utilized Tuaca (tuˈaːka), an Italian brandy based liquor with citrus and vanilla characteristics. To get the bright orange flavor I utilized fresh orange juice and a little bit of triple sec, an orange liquor. The fresh lime juice helps balance the drink from becoming too sweet.
